Bleak Week 29 Sep - 5 Oct 2008

I'm already late. Jesus.

If I had written this in time, I'd bemoan the Mission of Burma show at Neumo's on Oct 1. I'm a big fan of Burma, and always have been, but the currently in idea of playing a record from your past live... it's crap hagiography as far as I'm concerned. You know exactly what's coming next, so what's the frickin' point of it? Ugh.

The J- hosts Tecumseh, Blue Sabbath Black Cheer, Wildildlife, and Dull Knife on Thursday Oct 2. It's the start of a long run of shows up and down the coast this month by BSBC, which is sweet, and hopefully Molly Maguire's next door will be showing this season's new sitcom, aka the Biden-Palin Vice Presidential Debate.

Aphonia hosts a showcase at 1412 on Friday Oct 3, with Mood Organ, Matt Shoemaker, and The Precambrian. Pretty sweet.

Next week: Vera shows are now $11? WTF??

Bleak Week: 22 Sep - 28 Sep 2008

[The first of a way too long series of posts concerning upcoming live musics in the greater Seattle area and then some, with an emphasis on bands that aren't pretty. Like you can't find this info elsewhere without my sarcastic comments. -j]

Not much out there this week, but we do get to end things with a bang...

The always suave Herb Diamante plays the J- on Saturday, Sep 27. He's the only cat listed on the bill, which thoroughly intrigues me.

Sunday Sep 28 is, like, holy crap. Chickenhed Church at Mr. Spot's Chai House has been known to throw down some good bills, but this weekend ups the ante: XXXtinct (nee Ecomorti) would be more than worth showing up for, but add Extraordinary Pigeons, who threw down a really nice set at Sam Debacle's bachelor party last month (not as debauched as you'd think, although I did have a bruise afterwards that took a week to heal), along with Penetration Camp (!!!) who makes their first Chai House appearance just in time for it to be dark outside, and not only that, but hecka ar. It's a stupidly good and stupidly diverse bill, and it's free. Lucky bastards. Pay it forward by washing it down at either the J- w/ Ed Mudshi (France - I don't know if that's a band name or the country) and Kolus (Earth, Accused, Master Musicians of Bukkake) or the Rendezvous with The Dead See, Hemingway, and Evangelist. I'll head for the latter, if only for the perversity of seeing The Dead See and The Dead C within a few weeks of each other.

(Yeah, The Dead C. Oct 15. Nectar.)

Next Week: The start of Blue Sabbath Blacktoberfest.
